Stable procurement of high-quality
steel scraps to reduce CO2 emissions by 75%
Electric arc furnace steel production is the key to achieving carbon neutrality. The CO2 emissions from electric arc furnaces are just 25%, compared with blast furnaces using iron ore and coal. The essential row material for electric arc furnaces is steel scrap. In the shift from blast furnaces to electric arc furnaces, there is an increasing demand for steel scraps that we supply. Steel scraps are made of steel resources collected from various wastes, which come from various sources, such as demolished buildings, discarded electric appliances, and automobile production processes. These scraps may not be generated predictably; therefore, it is difficult to reserve the necessary volume and to stably supply them. We have strength in our reliable relationships with many scrap peddlers and processors all over the country, which enables us to supply materials properly in accordance with the quality and volume of steel scraps inquired by manufacturers. We also supply materials from regions with excess inventory to regions in short supply, both domestically and overseas. This is where our coordination capability works well.
